One way to fold up all pop up tents-2

In my last article, I introduce a way to fold all different pop up tents, which called “Reverse bridge method”. Today, I would like to introduce another way, I call it “oval shape method”, which could be used for all different pop up tents too. I can’t say which way is better, because someone like reverse bridge method, someone like oval shape method, and some pop up tents are more suitable to oval shape method and some pop up tent more suitable to reverse bridge method.  

Let me introduce oval shape method with same four pop up tents, including typical pop up dome tent, simplified pop up dome tent, pop up beach tent and pop up shower tent. No matter what kind of pop up tent, please remember the name of this method, it’s oval shape method, you should try to fold the tent to oval shape first. Let’s start.

Typical Pop up dome tent

There are horizontal pole and upright pole(s). As mentioned in my last article, there could be some other features of this tent, like how many doors/ventilations, where they located and so on. But the essential feature for the typical pop up dome tent is that there are horizontal pole and upright pole(s).

Below sketches for your reference. First of all, fold the two ends of horizontal pole up to connect to the upright pole(s), which match below step 1, 2. Second, Hold these poles at middle, turn half of the tent 180°towards you (against you also workable), then the tent was folded to two circles, which match below step 3, 4. Thirdly, make the two circles overlap as possible as you can, which match below step 4, 5. Now, you can see the tent was folded to oval shape.

Let’s stop here for this tent, as next steps are completely same to other pop up tents, I will introduce it together.

Simplified typical pop up tent

The simplified typical pop up tent is original from typical pop up tent. It could have similar features to typical pop up tent, which has no effort on fold up way. The only difference is that simplified pop up tent removed the horizontal pole. Below is photo of this kind of pop up tent.

As mentioned above, there’s no horizontal pole for simplified typical pop up tent, so it’s not necessary to fold up the horizontal pole to connect the upright pole. The first step is hold the middle points of the upright pole as below step 1 shows, turn half of tent 180°towards you (against you is workable too), then the tent was folded to 2 circles. Second, make the two circles overlap as possible as you can according to step 2, 3, now, you can see the tent was folded in oval shape.

Pop up beach tent

It’s pop up beach tent turn. Pop up beach tent is modified typical pop up dome tent. The essential structure is same to typical pop up dome tent. Below photo is a pop up beach tent and a typical pop up dome tent. 

First of all, we should make the pop up tent headstand, which match below step 1, 2. Second, hold the middle point as below step 3 shows, turn half of the tent 180°towards yourself(against yourself is workable too), then the tent was folded to 2 circles. Next, make the two circles overlap as possible as you can according to step 4, 5.

pop up shower tent

Pop up shower tent is another typical pop up tent structure, which is different from pop up dome tent. It’s compose of four oval upright panels, these four panels are in same shape and size, each panel is supported by a spring pole. The essential feature for this kind of pop up tent is that it is composed of four same panels and each panel supported by a spring pole.

The steps to fold pop up shower tent to oval shape is included in the article about the revise bridge method, here I repeat it. There are four panels and four ridges.

First, hold any ridge, then push it to catercorner ridge. At this step, two panels overlaps with another two panels, let’s say 4 panels to 2 panels.

Next, fold half of it to another half, at this step, all for panels overlapped, let’s say 2 panels to 1 panel.

Now, the tent was folded to oval shape. These two steps could be simplified as below:

1^st, 4 panels to 2 panels.

2^nd, 2 panels to 1 panel.

We finish first steps of all these four types of pop up tents, now let’s continue the following steps. First, Hold the middle of oval, get it down and turn half of it towards you and half of it against you according to below step A, B, now the tent was folded like the number “8” as step C. Next, fold half of “8” to another half, which shows by below step C, D. Last, fix the folded tent by strap.
